First thing, you will need access to a high-speed Internet
connection. Ideally, a 5 meg cable ISP connection would be best.
Next to that, a 3 meg cable or DSL connection will do fine.
Platform choice: We are going to recommend a balance of
economy, and long-lasting service and satisfaction. Our first choice
would have to be the Xbox 360 with 20 gig HD. It is a new console
that will be around for years, before it is surpassed or obsoleted.
In my opinion, all the neatest console pro games are available for
the 360. The graphics and performance will never leave you
feeling like you're left out. Due to Microsoft's excellent
backwards-compatible software, you can even compete in Halo:
Combat Evolved, or Halo 2 arenas. Gears of War is being touted
as the new Halo (we'll see), and Counter-Strike (very popular in
PC pro gaming) is also 360-friendly. This is not the place to get
into all the possibilities of Online Gaming, but we just want to
assure you, that you can do no better than the 360, for economy
and fun.
We wanted to put together a bare-bones, no frills econo-setup
with an original Xbox, but we searched everywhere for a decent
source, and found, they're just not around. When we did run
across one, it was around $270. You can get a new 360 Core
(stripped down 360) from Amazon for $300... why cheat yourself
out of the upgraded graphics for $30?
You're also going to need an Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Gold
Card, for access to all Xbox Live gaming arenas.
(also available from Amazon)
We are recommending Amazon, because their prices are
competitive, they ship FAST, they stand behind what they sell, and
they handle their business like pros. 100%. For the custom,
tricked-out hardware, only carried by the specialty shops, go look
at custom gaming gear.
If you don't know what games you'd like to compete in, try renting
video games for a while from Gamefly, until you find your niche. At
$60 a pop for Next-Gen, you don't want to guess wrong, too often!

Reclaimer's FAQ for Xbox Live...
What kind of broadband connection will I need?
High speed broadband connection, cable or DSL only. Microsoft
recommends 256K for download and 64K for upload. Faster is
better, for a lag-free experience.
What exactly is the Xbox Live Starter Kit?
The Starter Kit contains a disc that updates your Xbox Dashboard
with Live functionality, as well as a headset that connects to your
controller that lets you communicate with other online players...
also some demo games, and the all-important subscription to
Xbox Live.
How do hook up my Xbox to get online?
You'll need an Ethernet cable to connect your Xbox to your modem
or router (a router lets you share the connection with your
computer). The cable has a head that looks like a phone jack
connector but a little bigger. Plug one end into the back of your
Xbox, and the other end into your modem or router.
After everything is plugged in, turn on your Xbox and follow the
on-screen instructions to set up the Live account.
Can I play on Live with my modded Xbox?
Absolutely not. Modding would give some players an unfair
advantage, so Microsoft's security detects the mods and blocks
your connection. Correction: In the past, this has been true. Now
the ModChip store is making a premodded Xbox 360 with a switch
for the mod chip, so you can turn it off when you go on Xbox live,
without tripping Microsoft's security.
There has never been a better time to start pro gaming. Video gaming is starting to be treated like a real sport.
Money is starting to come into the competitions, but this is nothing compared to what lies ahead. Hollywood is
barely holding its own and television and DVD's are slipping. Leagues are offering $million contracts, and
endorsement money won't be far behind. The interactive nature of online gaming and competitive pro gaming,
give them an entertainment value that completely blows away vegging out in front of the tube. The
accessibility of gaming, especially Xbox-based online gaming, gives everyone a chance to be a Pro Gaming Star. All
you need is the ambition, good reflexes, and the discipline to train. Anyone can be the next Karma or Fatal1ty.
