Thanks to the efforts of Johnny Damon, star
centerfielder for the NY Yankees, and the Global
Gaming League, baseball fans will now be able to
game online with some of their favorite pro baseball
players.

Just 4 days before Christmas '06, Damon and the GGL announced
the Professional Baseball Video Game League. Some of pro ball's
best players will battle it out gaming online, with their own ranks
and against the fans.

According to Ted Owen, founder and chairman of the GGL, “The
PBGL is not a fantasy baseball league, but rather the ultimate
online video competition featuring real MLB players and fans who
live for the game. By bringing together our nation's traditional
pastime and the fastest growing entertainment medium in the
world, we’re striving to make online video game competitions as
much a part of American culture as baseball and apple pie.”

We at Video Game Locker have been harping (see:
Online Video
and Computer Gaming as a Catalyst to Positive Social Function)
about our predictions regarding online gaming and pro gaming...
that this venue formerly reviled by sociologists and teachers as a
socially destructive element, is actually bringing people together.
Technological advances in gaming software, hardware, and high-
speed ISP's, enable online gamers in San Diego to meet up with,
chat, play, and generally have a great time.

So far, the line-up includes:
Josh Barfield, Cleveland Indians
Craig Hansen and Julian Tavarez, Boston Red Sox
Matt Holliday and Willy Taveras, Colorado Rockies
Dallas Mc Pherson, Los Angeles Angels
Derek Lowe, Los Angeles Dodgers
Prince Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers
Luke Hochevar, Kansas City Royals
Rodrigo Lopez and Corey Patterson, Baltimore Orioles
Seth McClung, Tampa Devil Rays
Mike Pelfrey, New York Mets

Johnny Damon will be the PBGL's first League Commissioner (you
just know he loves being called 'Commissioner Damon', hah!),
overseeing the chosen field of battle: Project Gotham Racing® 3
for Xbox 360. (We told you guys to choose a 360 for online
gaming!)

Here's yet another part we find to be very cool... Damon is taking
advantage of the stir caused by this gaming alliance to focus
attention on one of our favorite charities,
the Wounded Warrior
Project, which promotes awareness and raises funds in support of
some 18,000 American Veterans, wounded in recent conflicts.

We are ecstatic about this development. The foresight and
benevolence shown by Commissioner Damon and the GGL is going
to bring online and pro gaming into the center stage of the Public's
awareness. What could be more All-American than Pro Baseball,
video gaming, and American veterans?

set up for online gaming yet, go to

We know what you're thinking. Although we feel we should probably be giving this tip to the pro ball players,
we're giving it to you (we do not, however, envy the ballplayers one bit. We think they will be thrashed horribly,
lol!). The
best strategy guide for Project Gotham Racing® 3.
On the subject of Xbox Sports video games, Kush Games gave a preview of MLB 2K7 for the Xbox 360 at this
year's Las Vegas CES Show. Reviewers reported the game set a new standard for baseball games, with its
stunning graphics, superior camera work, and smooth gameplay. Add to this, the online gaming capability, and it
seems to us, a natural starting point for developers to create multiplayer sports games that would be
enormously popular.
